The Faroe Islands are a grouping of 18 islands secluded in the North Atlantic. This small island nation is home to the Faroese; a people that are as unique as the landscape they call home. The Faroes, which are often seen as the "Little Iceland" are a growing destination for travel. In 2017 the islands GDP was comprised of 17% eco-tourism. In order to continue to grow this I created an experiential micro-site to not only drive tourism, but also educate the world about this hidden gem.
The Challenges
-
Lack of direction in user flows
-
Difficulty finding information
-
Singularity from page to page
-
No clear direction to drive user interaction
-
Poor content management

Design for the user
After analysing the current challenges to the
website I moved forward by creating Personas
so I could have user goals to drive the design.
Exploring look & feel
After establishing clear user goals I explored the look and feel from sleek and modern to more experimental and experiential with Style-tiles. In the end I went with a design that leaned heavily on the idea of story, culture, and myth.

Sketches for an agile mind-set
Moving into the final visual designs I did quick
sketches in order to establish quick flows and
understanding for how content would change
from device to device.
Bringing it all to life
After working through basic design and a mobile first mind-set I designed the visual for the Home page, People & culture, and Plan your trip.

Plan your trip

Plan Your Trip
Plan your trip allows you to build your trip and plan every detail from travel methods, travel packages, to housing and information about the islands and the people of the Faores.

People & Culture
Finally People & Culture allow you to take a deep dive into the Faroese and their home and way of life. Here you can find history, culture, facts, myths and more.

Adaptable design
Building out the visuals I designed with responsiveness in mind and created visual adaptable to mobile, tablet and desktop.
Home; explore the islands
Home curates relevant content and gives the user easy access to any and all content relevant to their journey to or to learn about the Faroe Islands.
